Kyokushin karate Katas
In kata, a type of ritualized self-training, motions are repeated or memorized in order to perform a specific fighting maneuver. The Northern and Southern Kata of Kyokushin are divided into two categories, according to a widely acclaimed Kyokushin literature, “The Budo Karate of Mas Oyama,” by Cameron Quinn, a longtime interpreter to Oyama.
The Japanese word kata literally translates as “shape that slices the earth.”
A kata is a series of forward, backward, and side movements combined with blocks, kicks, and punches from one or more stances. Both the quantity and the order of the motions are quite particular. You can use the instructional videos listed below to help with your Kyokushin Karate Kata training.
