How do you determine when a person is having a “senior moment” and when it may be more? The distinctions between “normal” and “not normal” brain aging will be covered in this session. Additionally, it will help you comprehend the anatomical changes to the brain that take place in dementia and how these changes affect how things work on a daily basis. You will also discover the symptoms that both dementia and depression/anxiety have as well as how they differ from one another.
One of the foremost educators and champions for those living with dementia or other types of brain alteration is Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA.
Teepa is an occupational therapist who has worked in both academia and clinical settings for more than 40 years. Her viewpoint is a result of her training, professional experience, research in medicine, and personal caring experiences. Her advocacy work inspired the creation of the GEMS® State Model, which describes how dementia progresses and how abilities change. She also developed the Positive Approach to Care® training tactics, which are useful tools for anybody trying to provide the best possible care and assistance for those who have had a brain alteration. She worked on the award-winning DVD Accepting the Challenge: Providing the Best Care for People with Dementia as the director of education for the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern North Carolina. Her approachable strategies give nationwide initiatives to promote best practices in care direction and leadership.
Positive Approach to Care (PAC), a firm owned by Teepa, was established in 2006 and is currently working to advance dementia care in over thirty different nations.
