Intelligent but stuck
Listen to Dr. Glover and Don Baker’s discussion of Tom Brown’s most recent book, “Smart But Stuck.” Dr. Glover and Don discuss a number of ADD/ADHD-related topics, but they mostly concentrate on two: how ADD/ADHD causes even extremely intelligent people to struggle and become stuck, and how it can have an emotional impact on individuals.
This discussion is entertaining and educational. You must listen to this free mp3 tape if you are intelligent but frequently find yourself in a rut in life or if you know someone who does.
What is happening?
Have you ever had the feeling that there is something exceptional about you—something special, creative, and strong—but you have never known what it is or how to intentionally access it?
Short spurts of this distinctive trait of yours—your difference—appear and astound people, sometimes even you. It evades you. It can change. Situations vary. It is therefore challenging to exploit.
In actuality, it’s quite difficult to allow your mind to relax long enough to reflect. You become sidetracked from following the thread by some concept or emotion.
What if it were able to calm your mind down long enough to concentrate on this trait or characteristic that makes you unique, to own it, to use it to your advantage, and to start advancing it?
Imagine a solution to overcome distraction.
Are You This?
You have some great concepts.
You have an intuitive grasp of difficult ideas.
Others struggle to connect the dots, but you do.
You’re fired or laid off from your job?
You are underachieving aptitudinally (either academically or by falling short of your “potential” in other areas).
You are impetuous, angry, impatient, and inconsistent.
Your capacity for boredom has decreased.
Your use of time and space is sloppy.
Simply put, your connections don’t last.
You experience misunderstanding.
Things that don’t get done without the pressure of a deadline require last-minute cramming.
Instead of being proactive, you are reactive.
You experience frequent anxiety and low morale.
You have problems paying attention to dull things.
You discover yourself avoiding, even isolating yourself.
You feel guilty.
When something is interesting, you lose your characteristics.
returning from a diversion (BFD)
You can become a “technologist” with BFD, which is a person who applies scientific knowledge to address real-world issues.
Think about it: a big part of the reason you might not be progressing as quickly as you’d like to is because you don’t understand your particular brain wiring. Or why your life isn’t turning out the way you expected.
The secret is to become intensely aware of your “brand,” or how your brain is wired, in all its aspects.
A relatively new idea called neurodiversity explains how different people interpret information in various ways. Neurodiversity is increasingly regarded as being crucial to human health, just like biodiversity is to the health of an ecosystem.
Biology is frequently the primary cause of distractibility. For instance, neuro-imaging now offers precise information on the regions of the brain that are affected by different neurotransmitter deficits.
Increase Your “Brand”
As a “brand” technologist, you will discover:
How to “feed,” “nourish,” and “optimize” your brain at its finest.
How to improve your ability to focus and pay attention.
How biological factors affect intention and attention.
How biological factors improve or even stimulate intention or attention
You may walk the earth with confidence and share your special gift with the world if you can recognize and completely live your brand.
Another shiny, bright object?
Come with me on this eight-week adventure. I promise that the information in BFD will influence you to make changes.
Recognize that you’ll get distracted along the way, but have faith that you’ll learn to control it. Over the years, I’ve observed my clients acquire pertinent skills and techniques that have improved their ability to regulate their attention and focus, reduced their distractibility, and given them more reliable access to the aspects of themselves that have always been true.
Are you nervous about all that’s going on? I got it. Perhaps you’re thinking, “I’ve tried this kind of stuff before, and it didn’t work,” or something similar. anticipating defeat before you even begin? I’ve already done that.
You don’t have to go through with it alone.
We’ll put in a lot of effort to help one another. Isolation is not recommended. A sense of community is encouraged. One of the best tactics you can employ during the BFD process is to make advantage of the knowledge and genius of your tribe members.
This time, we’ll make an effort to assemble a team to assist you in finding your way back from diversion.
Think of a BFD Team with the phrase “We’ll pull each other through this” flashing in the distance. The absence of any men.
Even if in the past you had a strong beginning but a weak end, I want you to make a commitment to beginning, continuing, and finishing the BFD course this time. You can be sure it will be worthwhile. Furthermore, you won’t be acting alone.
