Georges “Rush” St. Pierre’s profile:
He was born on May 19, 1981, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and began training in Kyokushin karate at the age of seven in order to protect himself from a bully at school.
[1] After his Karate instructor passed away, he began practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ). He has also studied boxing and wrestling.
After seeing Royce Gracie compete at UFC 1 in 1993, he began to have dreams of being a UFC champion.
[2]
St. Pierre practices with many teams, including the Canadian National Wrestling Team and Triumph Fight Team.
He received jiu jitsu instruction at the Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in New York City prior to his bout with B.J. Penn at UFC 58.
On July 21, 2006, St.Pierre obtained his brown belt in BJJ from Renzo Gracie [3].
St.Pierre has also competed in mixed martial arts for BTT Canada.
Despite being a Canadian boxer, St.Pierre feels that his popularity in the United States exceeds that of his own Canada.
“In the States, I don’t really have a private life since everyone recognizes me when I go down the street…
However, nobody in Canada is aware of who I am, claims St.Pierre.
