SHIODA Gozo was born in Tokyo in 1915. He trained in Kendo and Judo as a young child. He started studying directly under Morihei UESHIBA in 1932. After graduating from Takushoku University with a bachelor’s degree, he is sent to teach aikido in China, Borneo, and Taiwan. He returned to Japan in 1946 and started studying with his mentor Morihei UESHIBA once again. He won the Grand Prize in Japan’s traditional martial arts competition in 1955, and the following year he founded the Yoshinkan Dojo. He starts teaching his methods in the police department in 1957, and in 1961, his master grants him the 9th Dan.

While stitching technique for sutures is an art learned through practice, the knowledge of what happens at the cellular and molecular level in the tissues being stitched arises through science.
