Fstoppers and landscape photographer Elia Locardi collaborated in 2014 to create two original photography courses titled Photographing the World. Elia set out to create an introductory course that tackles both his on-location photography skills and his advanced post processing in the first session, Photographing The World: Landscape Photography and Post-Processing. Elia turns gears in the second course, “Photographing the World: Cityscape, Astrophotography, and Advanced Post-Processing,” where she photographs some of the most stunning cityscapes on the planet and introduces far more intricate Photoshop editing techniques.
We are thrilled to announce that in 2017 Photographing the World III will continue the global voyage! In this video, Elia examines Italy, one of his favorite nations, as well as New York City and Dubai, two of the world’s greatest megacities. Part III of the Photographing the World series expands on the prior two installments by examining more sophisticated editing strategies and original field photography approaches. Elia finds himself photographing the stars in a metropolis, enduring inclement weather, exploring new cities, getting access to unusual rooftop vistas, utilizing tilt shift lenses and Gigapan equipment, and even shooting Dubai’s magnificent fog. We are happy to welcome you to Photographing the World III if you have been waiting for our next journey with Elia Locardi.
Meet Elia
Elia Locardi is a highly accomplished educator who spends his time photographing some of the most stunning places on earth. He is also a highly regarded professional travel photographer, Fujifilm Global Ambassador, writer, public speaker, and photographer. Since being completely mobile and location independent in March 2012, he and his wife have been traveling nonstop across the world. Over the course of his full-time travels since 2009, he has been to more than 55 different nations and flown about two million miles.
Elia has created a well-known and incredibly distinctive style of travel photography by combining conventional in-camera techniques, certain times of day, and cutting-edge post-processing techniques. His aim is to express his vision via each image so that others can experience the world as he does—full of color, texture, depth, and emotion. As we go from the realm of natural landscapes to some of the most stunning man-made cities and wonders, Fstoppers is thrilled to collaborate with Elia to reveal even more of his sophisticated photography method.
Here are a few examples of Photographing the World III’s before and after photos.
On-Site Photography Training
Elia takes you across the world and discusses with you the real-world photography problems he faces with while out in the field, just like in every other lesson in the Photographing the World series. Every class starts with a thorough investigation of the scene being captured. This implies that Elia takes you through all of his scouting advice, his camera composition, the lighting issues he encounters, and all of the technical camera settings he employs for a certain site. You can observe how the lighting and weather vary throughout the course of the shoot, and you also get a close-up look at Elia’s method for capturing raw files out in the field. You will be able to learn how to master all of the skills required to take your own vacation images at the finest quality by observing Elia work via each of his photographers.
master complex photo editing and post-production
Only half of the procedure is finished after the files have been taken on location. Elia then takes you inside his post-production facility where he explains every minute procedure he employs to transform an image from a perfectly timed snapshot into a masterpiece. You may discover here how Elia gets the most out of his raw files and how to change the color and tone of your photographs so they stand out on the screen. Photographing the World III begins very simply but gradually becomes more complicated, like with all of our courses. As a word of caution, you might wish to start with Elia’s most basic instruction, Photographing the World: Landscapes, if you are not experienced with Photoshop. Advanced panoramic stitching, making illumination masks from scratch, replacing sky in complicated scenes, advanced temporal blending, challenging object removal, and developing Photoshop actions are some of the subjects addressed in this course.
In contrast to earlier courses, when Elia employed third-party plugins to create his own style, everything in Photographing the World 3 is completed using only Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. This enables you to comprehend how you, too, may make the most of the two pieces of software that are most often utilized in the sector without depending on additional plugins that can cost more money and need frequent upgrades.
This tutorial’s post-processing techniques combine Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to be as non-destructive as possible. Every approach learnt may be used with accuracy and the best quality output utilizing a quick and effective 100% manual process that doesn’t rely on other plug-ins. This workflow is intended to provide you the power to produce the finest quality and most seamless outcomes, whether you’re printing high-resolution photographs or preparing images for an online portfolio.
Elia has gained notoriety for a technique he calls “Blending Moments in Time,” in which he stitches together several images taken throughout blue hour and sunset to create a single, seamless picture. This method aims to capture all aspect of a place’s memory, from the vividness of an unforgettable sunset to the lovely, mellow artificial lighting of a metropolis or town. The goal of this process is to demonstrate to pupils how they may develop the same elite appearance for themselves. Elia takes you step-by-step through the process even though it involves a lot of digital technology, demonstrating how simple and enjoyable post-processing can be.
Develop Your Panoramic Stitching Skills
A stitched pano picture does a better job of capturing the vast horizon of a megacity like Dubai than any other. In this article, Elia demonstrates some of his most useful methods for taking several pictures and flawlessly merging them into a single, incredibly detailed panoramic image. Elia’s lectures on panoramic photography will teach you the skills to capture as much information as you can while exhibiting the greatest field of view possible, whether you find yourself wanting to drop in a sky replacement, mix moments in time, or eliminate foreground impediments.
