I’ll share some more of my uneducated comments since my friend continues purchasing Saotome’s recordings. This tape includes a segment outlining fundamental techniques, a segment of Saotome sensei’s explanation (his English is a little difficult to understand; if I am distorting his explanation, it is not on purpose), and a segment of a recorded seminar.
On this video, Saotome sensei discusses the philosophy behind his weapons training: since the use of physical force is prohibited by the usage of the weapons, it pushes pupils to concentrate on technique. His two-sword methods are meant to strengthen both sides of the body. On a television program on Miyamoto Musashi, the real methods were based (!). But they don’t resemble the two sword techniques of Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu.
Because Saotome doesn’t indicate the opponent’s location when he displays a stance, I had trouble following the fundamentals (it seems to be on varying angles from the camera, but that could be me trying to map them on NIR nito kamae).
This Saotome tape, like the others I’ve seen, seems to be only relevant to members of the “Aikido School of Ueshiba.” Some oddities I saw were: Saotome sensei is never the “uke,” always the “nage.” Additionally, “uke” maintains his position when Saotome sensei retreats after each technique. I observed the same thing in his randori phase, and Saotome sensei appears to enjoy walking backwards a lot.
Health and Medical course
More information about Medical:
Medicine is the science and practice of establishing the diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Medicine encompasses a variety of health care practices evolved to maintain and restore health by the prevention and treatment of illness.
Contemporary medicine applies biomedical sciences, biomedical research, genetics, and medical technology to diagnose, treat, and prevent injury and disease,
typically through pharmaceuticals or surgery, but also through therapies as diverse as psychotherapy, external splints and traction, medical devices, biologics, and ionizing radiation, amongst others.
Medicine has been around for thousands of years, during most of which it was an art (an area of skill and knowledge) frequently having connections to the religious and
philosophical beliefs of local culture. For example, a medicine man would apply herbs and say prayers for healing, or an ancient philosopher and physician would apply bloodletting according to the theories of humorism.
In recent centuries, since the advent of modern science, most medicine has become a combination of art and science (both basic and applied, under the umbrella of medical science).
While stitching technique for sutures is an art learned through practice, the knowledge of what happens at the cellular and molecular level in the tissues being stitched arises through science.
