Joseph is a master storyteller and designer of stories. In this two-hour webcast he will share the secret of “storying about” his term for creating and inhabiting stories, and the use of stories to co-create realities with others. As a long-term student of story, and the great storytellers and scholars like Joseph Campbell, Joseph will reveal the magnificence of the spoken word in the form of stories told, and the impact of stories heard.

Stories are as old as humankind. The ancients revered the art of story and the telling of stories. We share memories encoded in our DNA of sitting around the fire while the elders, shamans and traders told stories that were the source of creation itself. Yet for the most part the art that is storying has been lost to all but a few. In this webcast Joseph will revive that art and share it with you, rekindling your ancestral memories, and bringing the storyteller within you alive as well.

Story is the art of capturing a moment of shared time and crystallizing it with intention to take a person beyond the moment in which they are living.

The greatest stories capture the attention and move it to awe, holding it suspended in time while the retelling of the event reveals itself … telling the listener (reader or viewer) what has transpired and what is known as a result. Sometimes what is revealed is only accessible hours, days, months or decades later, such is the power of story to entrance and enthrall delaying the power and impact of the tale until the receiver is ripe for the reward.

There is a magic to the way story intertwines with time itself, collapsing time into bits and recoding it according to the intentions held by the teller. The most powerful stories take place between time, where time is held suspended so that the listener can partake of the experience and emerge with all that has transpired and yet without having to pay the price of time itself, much like Ebenezer Scrooge emerged from his night of visitations from the ghosts of Christmas a new man reborn. Though the tales he partook of that night spanned a lifetime, he awoke but the morning after as though no time at all, save the span of one night, had elapsed … and yet he was granted the miracle and grace of reliving the entirety of his life.

Story has the power to transform and with it you become a magician of sorts, a shaman with the power to heal or the potential to harm. Story shapes not only the past, but the future as well … use it wisely.
