“A senior specialist in Yiquan and Internal Martial Arts” by Andre K. – Marseille (France)
This collection, in my opinion, is not for a complete novice in Yiquan, but rather for more experienced practitioners who want to extend their understanding in practical aspects of Yiquan after learning the fundamental stance, for example. And Zhang provides the solution for: The Try Force exercise serves as an extension of zhan zhuang and a precursor to Exerting Force.
I feel that his very solid background in other martiala arts enabled him to accumulate some innovative applications, employing more kicks than other specialists but also integrating much plainly Baguazhang walking technique. Same for the weapon, most Yiquan specialists would utilize the long stick as the continuation of fundamental abilities, but Zhang guangyu, here persists in the Sword Fali and exhibits very convincely the advanced explosive power form by employing traditional Sword.

It’s a good idea to collect all eight DVDs: it saves time and money to do so: Thank you, CMA. Zhang Guangyu is one of my favorite Yiquan’s master: simple and effective. His approach delivers a distance ahead in Yiquan training as he is not only seeking the “internal power” but how to apply it: by “vibrating” his body down to the sword.
Interestingly, as Andre K. previously stated, he is also focused on the lower limbs for more advanced training: more circle footwork and more kicks than others.
After a minimum of standing practice, Zhang GuanYu provides intriguing practical methods for any serious Yiquan practitioner to build his “dynamic” combat skills.
