Then you experience your first few days as a charge nurse, and you quickly realize that you lack the skills necessary to help your staff provide safe care, to organize your day, to lead your staff, to educate, model, and lead change, to do evaluations and schedules, to collaborate with doctors and other healthcare providers, and to stay on top of your game! WHO THE SPEAKER IS
Over 30 years ago, Vivien Rosina Mudgett, MSN, MA, RN, became a registered nurse. From staff nurse to charge nurse, supervisor, manager, director, and administrator, she has climbed the nursing career ladder. She just established the Healthcare Leadership Coalition to support nurse leaders attempting to navigate the turbulent waters of healthcare reform by mentoring and coaching them. Vivien discovered that most nurses today are promoted due to their exceptional clinical talents but receive little to no training for the task that lies ahead of them, just as she did when she first became a nurse leader.
The fact that Vivien is an active member of many national organizations, such as The American Organization of Nurse Executives and the American Nurses Association as well as the Honor Society of Sigma Theta Tau, further supports her legitimacy as a leader in the profession. She has spoken passionately and insightfully about healthcare issues to several hospitals and business organizations for many years. For many in the industry, Vivien’s speaking engagements are considered a must-see.
Every workshop that Vivien conducts exhibits her enthusiasm for the topic. Vivien offers nurses useful skills they may put to practice the very next day on the workplace through her new leadership seminars. After attending these sessions, participants report feeling more enthusiastic about their jobs and remembering why they chose to work in this admirable and therapeutic field.
