In the Octagon, not all wrestling is successful. After instructing dozens of martial artists in Jiu Jitsu, Luta Livre, Muay Thai, and boxing in the art of wrestling, I’ve discovered that what works is what I like to refer to as the “7-9-5’s of wrestling.”

The wrestling 7-9-5’s are:

-The 7 fundamental control locations in wrestling -The nine most fundamental takedowns utilized in Olympic and collegiate wrestling. the nine countermeasures to these takedowns. – The five fundamental takedowns that have been shown to be most useful in NHB combat. The five top countermeasures to these takedowns.

I’ve competed in fights and studied grappling and NHB enough to know what works and what doesn’t. Traditional freestyle, greco-roman, and collegiate wrestling are ineffective. The strategies you are about to learn from these DVDs are what actually work.

WHO THE ACTOR IS

Gholar joined MMA having one of the most spectacular wrestling resumes ever to enter the cage, including coaching the fantastic University of Minnesota team and winning the U.S.A. Greco-Roman Nationals twice at 180.5 pounds (1986 and 1988). Gholar focused on teaching MMA fighters after working with and competing against some of the finest athletes in the sport.

Following his success in the US, Vitor Belfort received a training offer in Brazil, the birthplace of mixed martial arts. Gholar’s skill as a teacher immediately became obvious not just in MMA contests but also in BJJ competitions. He taught at Royler Gracie’s Humaita academy and Carlinhos Gracie’s Barra academy. Gholar’s talents as a trainer allowed him to have an impact on the champions’ Guard sweeps in addition to their takedowns.

Gholar accepted the post of wrestling coach when Brazil Top Team, perhaps the best MMA team, made the opportunity. He spent years working with the sport’s top athletes, like Ze Mario Sperry, Murilo Bustamante, and Ricardo Arona.

Gholar, a guy of many skills, was awarded the Walt Disney Pictures Fellowship, after which he wrote and optioned two projects. There is every sign that he will continue to succeed despite recently being hampered by medical issues brought on by decades of contact sports!
