Improper foot care in diabetic patients can lead to extremely high risk wounds, amputation and even death. Identifying care needs in this population is a complex maze of unique neuropathic changes in the diabetic patient, further complicated by a tangled web of co-morbidities. Foot examinations are a whole other challenge, riddled with sometimes obscure cues as to what is going on with the diabetic patient’s health.
