The question of whether or not humans have the ability to choose for themselves whether or not to act or behave in a given way is at the center of the free will vs. determinism controversy.
Determinism
According to the determinist perspective, all conduct has a cause and is thus predictable. Our actions are influenced by internal or external influences that are beyond our control; free will is a myth.
