Integrating Polarities by Steve Andreas
Beryl articulated a strong polarity that she defined in numerous ways, including: going ahead vs. receiving and accepting, risk vs. stability, doing vs. being, confidence vs. fear, masculine vs. feminine, and “everything else” vs. love. In this 48-minute session, the goal was to change these “either/or” oppositions into “both/ands,” which would allow her to become more integrated and utilize all of her skills at once. Beryl processed her mother’s suicide when she was ten years old during a subsequent 44-minute session. NTSC / DOLBY, two unedited NLP client sessions with follow-up, running 1 hour, 32 minutes. From the subsequent conversation: After her initial consultation, Beryl wrote: “I spent an insightful 45 minutes there. It didn’t necessarily go where I expected it to, but it did go to the core, where it was required, enabling me to access and change a very ingrained and long-held belief system. I found it particularly appealing since there was no narrative, thrashing around while gasping for air, sobbing uncontrollably, or any reliving of a particularly painful occurrence. Despite a few tears, the session was straightforward, polite, and uncomplicated. I then hopped in my car and sped off. After going to Costco, I feel even more exhausted. I would have assumed I was just having a brief discussion if I hadn’t realized I was aiming for NLP. I got to see and feel myself move something that had been STU-UCK!! for a very long time. Sometimes we’re just ready for things to shift, and that may have been the case here.”
