Of course, since you are a BJJ player you know that we grapplers tend to look at the fighting game a bit different than other martial artists.
We’re always looking to take our skills to a new level and looking for tips and techniques that can give us an edge on the mat and evolve our game.
If there’s one other combat system that has a likeminded approach to taking skills to a whole new level through dedication and constant training, it has to be wrestling.
Some argue that wrestling is the oldest martial art in the world, and we’d be hard pressed to argue against that point.
And as it turns out, we BJJ students can actually benefit a bit from what the best wrestlers have learned about the grappling game over the years.
Many top level practitioners have always crossed trained in wrestling and this really gives them an edge.
For example, if you can wrestle and have some wrestling techniques built into your BJJ game, you can control where the match goes.
So if you have a great top game, you can take down your opponent and work that top game.
You can also use wrestling in “reverse” to keep yourself from being taken down as well.
This is of particular importance if you compete as we all know that points can sometimes be hard to come by so you don’t want to give away too many during a match.
