Nationally renowned psychiatrist, physician, researcher, spiritual teacher, and lecturer Sir David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. The advanced state of spiritual awareness known as “Enlightenment,” “Self Realization,” and “Unio Mystica” is what gives his contribution to humanity its singularity. This spiritual state has rarely, if ever, been experienced by a distinguished scientist or physician. Dr. Hawkins is therefore uniquely qualified to present a spiritual path that is convincing to contemporary society from a scientific standpoint. The traditional characteristics of this state include clear awareness of Ultimate Reality, empathy for all creatures, steadfast commitment to easing suffering, radiant joy, and humor. Dr. Hawkins is revered as a teacher of advanced awareness by people from all ages, races, and spiritual beliefs, as evidenced by the title “Rae Ryeong Seon Kak Tosa” (Foremost Teacher of the Way to Enlightenment) given to him in Korea. Dr. Hawkins is the founder of the Path of Devotional Nonduality and the founding director of the Institute for Spiritual Research, Inc. He has given numerous lectures at venues like Westminster Abbey, Oxford Forum, the Universities of Notre Dame, Michigan, Argentina, Fordham, and Harvard, as well as the University of California (SF) Medical School, Institute of Noetic Sciences, and Agape Spiritual Center (Los Angeles). He has also served as a consultant to Protestant, Buddhist, and Catholic monasteries. He has discussed international diplomacy with other governments and played a key role in resolving protracted conflicts that posed serious threats to world peace. His work in the fields of health, healing, recovery, spirituality in contemporary life, consciousness research, and meditation has been highlighted in recent documentaries, magazines, and radio interviews (e.g., Oprah Radio and Institute of Noetic Sciences). To relieve human suffering, Dr. Hawkins entered the medical profession, and his work as a doctor was groundbreaking. He served as the medical director of the North Nassau Mental Health Center from 1956 to 1980 and as the director of research at Brunswick Hospital from 1968 to 1979 on Long Island. His practice had the most offices in the country, with 25 offices, 2000 outpatients, and several research labs. Together with Nobel Laureate chemist Linus Pauling, he co-authored the groundbreaking Orthomolecular Psychiatry in 1973, launching a brand-new subspecialty of psychiatry. Appearances on The Today Show, The Barbara Walters Show, and The Mcneil/Leher News Hour followed his medical innovations. He helped found several psychiatric organizations in the 1970s, including the New York Attitudinal Healing Center and the Editorial Board of the Journal of Schizophrenia. Thereafter, numerous honors were bestowed upon him, including the Huxley Award for his “Inestimable Contribution to the Alleviation of Human Suffering,” the Physicians Recognition Award from the American Medical Association, the 50 Year Distinguished Life Fellow Award from the American Psychiatric Association, induction into the Orthomolecular Medicine Hall of Fame, and a nomination for the prestigious Templeton Prize, which recognizes advancements in science and religion. He was made a knight of the Sovereign Order of the Hospitaliers of St. John of Jerusalem (founded in 1077) in 1995 in a ceremony presided over by H.H. Prince Valdemar of Schaumburg Lippe at the San Anselmo Theological Seminary in honor of his contributions to humanity.
