Smile at Fear from Pema Chodron
Smile at Fear from Pema Chodron
We all have fears, but when we examine them properly, we see that each worry is really just a fear of ourselves. We’re hesitant to examine our ingrained patterns of thinking and doing because we may not always like what we find. Ironically, it is this aversion to being really honest with ourselves that keeps us mired in stressful and unsatisfying behaviors. Here is a vision for getting through this most fundamental fear and realizing the courage, faith, and joy that are already there in us. Pema Chödrön imparts teachings in this retreat recording that were motivated by Chögyam Trungpa’s book Smile at Fear. She and her teaching assistant, Carolyn Rose Gimian, also share techniques they learned from Trungpa Rinpoche for facing the present moment with courage, such as: The Windhorse Practice, a three-step meditation to help you gain self-assurance; Spiritual Warrior training to help you face life with courage and compassion; and Meditation instruction to help you calm your mind and improve focus.
